Michael Madsen addresses son’s suicide: ‘I still can’t grasp what happened’
Michael Madsen has spoken publicly for the first time about the tragic death of his son, Hudson. The 26-year-old was found with a gunshot wound to the head in what is suspected to be a suicide.
In a statement shared with The Los Angeles Times, the 64-year-old actor from Reservoir Dogs expressed his shock and grief. “I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy — my last text from him was ‘I love you dad,’” Madsen said.
He went on to share his confusion, noting, “I didn’t see any signs of depression. It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened.”
Hudson’s family, devastated by the loss, released a statement to Metro. “We are heartbroken and overwhelmed with grief and pain at the loss of Hudson,” they said. “His memory and light will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. We ask for privacy and respect during this difficult time.”
A spokesperson for the Honolulu Medical Examiner confirmed to PEOPLE that Hudson died of a gunshot wound to the head in a suspected suicide on the island of Oahu. The tragedy’s specific timing was not disclosed.
Hudson lived in Hawaii with his wife, Carlie. The couple had moved to Oahu in 2019.
Hudson was the oldest of Michael’s three children with his wife, DeAnna Madsen. They also have two sons, Calvin and Luke. Michael has two older sons, Christian and Max, from his previous marriage to Jeannine Bisignano.
